Arts Alpharetta Projects & Services 2018-19
Arts Alpharetta (A2O) has been focused on 3 key areas: the new Arts Center, Public Art (mainly sculptures for MISCELLANY and Omnium Gatherum) and the 10 arts-related, non-profit ‘umbrella’ groups in Alpharetta. Our organization is very active across a wide range of projects and activities — From jurying and hanging gallery shows, to coordinate special events, encouraging cross-pollenation between the diverse umbrella groups. The list below provides an overview of A2O activities within the 3 key areas
ARTS CENTER (AC)
• Arts Center launch event – coordinated artists including nationally recognized sculptors Michael Dillon and Greg Johnson for the gallery, volunteers, create 2 large PPT shows for Arts Center (one focusing on A2O, the other for the AC), coordinated umbrella groups for grand opening, ‘Playbill’; Facility photography; social and print media promotion; caterers
• Juried and hung several AC gallery shows (Joe Dreher, Deanna Sirlin, Fiber & Folk, Southern Summer). Also produced and promoted openings and artist talks for all new shows + catalog content; exterior banners; food/refreshments
• Gallery entry apps compared and recommended EntryThingy.com; CODAworx.com
• Lease/purchase of Michael Dillon’s Avian (‘wing’) for gallery
• Leisure Guide preliminary layout, photography, content and proof drafts
• Worked with city on gallery e-pay, pedestals, volunteer lists, etc.
• Hosted workshops on screenwriting with produced writer Mike Buchanan and host movie screenings of The Fat Boy Chronicles
• Hosted Fulton County Arts Council meeting/luncheon, North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Alpharetta Business Association
• Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra concert in black box SOLD OUT – event coordination and publicity
• Jazz Night in black box SOLD OUT – social promotion; coordinate food and performers
• Coordinated “Play Me Again” piano painting/volunteers/Artist + performers
PUBLIC ART:
• MISCELLANY – contracts, artists and installer coordination/supervision, publicity and de-installations
• Provided ‘Walking Tour’ brochure content and photography to the City
• Marietta Street mural – coordinated high school group, reviewed proposal/recommendations
• Omnium Gatherum (OG; replacing MISCELLANY) application reviews, artists contracts, negotiate pricing, coordinate with installer, etc.
UMBRELLA GROUPS (Including ACT 1 Theater, Alpha Arts Guild, Alpharetta City Band, Alpharetta Community Chorus, Alpharetta Symphony, Georgia Nature Photographers Association, LionheARTISANS Cottage, Metropolitan Ballet, Friends of Alpharetta Library and Chattahoochee Evening Starts Quilt Guild)
• Coordinated city check disbursements for artists and umbrella groups
• Outreach and interviews with most groups on objectives, strategies, needs, promotion and volunteer efforts
• Produced Arts Appreciation/Open House at the AC – coordinated all umbrella groups about timing, tables, overall participation, publicity, performances, décor, signage
• Social media promotion and PR for umbrella events
• Created umbrella flyer for distribution + updates
• Postings on Arts Alpharetta website
ARTS ALPHARETTA ORGANIZATION
• Meetings with city leaders on direction, objectives, corporate outreach
• CPA (Laurel Bell) on Board, joined Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, and recruited Mike Shuster for legal reviews
• Financial reporting and bi-monthly A2O meetings
• Conversations with Fulton Co. school leadership including Tim Duncan about accessing the new STEM school’s auditorium for our performing arts groups (ACT 1, Met. Ballet,Chorus, Symphony, Band)
• Interviewed Director of Quinlan Art Center (Gainesville) for advice on calendar, instructors, special events, fundraising, organization, etc.
• Participated in Garden Arts District meetings; created drafts of local Garden Arts map
• Website maintenance, SEO, umbrella postings on website and social media
