NOW SHOWING: LAYERS

A gallery exhibition at the Alpharetta Arts Center in partnership with the City of Alpharetta's Cultural Services, Arts Alpharetta hosts an open call for 'Layers.'

What meaning or message is unveiled through layers? As humans, we our personalities are layered. Our emotions are layered. As artists, how do we use layers to convey or express an idea? For artisans, the use of layers can be critical to construction in specific media. Fabric, fibers, paint, glazes, screen prints, clay, additive sculpture? All could be considered as a means of exploring the depths of creativity. And sometimes, the joy of creating involves the use of layers in the construction of the piece. All media welcomed.

Featuring Music Match performance by Brooks Smith
Multi-instrumentalist and award-winning composer/singer Brooks Smith was born in Savannah, GA and grew up in Richmond, VA. After earning degrees in Piano Performance and Music Composition in the '90s, he ended up in Atlanta, where he has played various instruments with groups like The Grapes, The Yeti Trio, Lester's Farm, Livin’ Large, Yacht Rock Schooner, Beatles tribute Nowhere Men, and a dozen more, while contributing studio tracks for artists like Jayna Jennings, Across the Wide, Christopher Alan Yates, and many others. A scholar of film, film composers, and visual arts, Brooks can often be found at art exhibits or festivals with his son and daughter, looking for the most exotic foods.

In partnership with Arts Alpharetta and in celebration of National Literacy Month, the Alpharetta Arts Center will host a reception for exhibit,
 
The Southeastern Region of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators will display their original artwork for published children's books.

Reception: Saturday, November 2, 5 - 7 pm
Light food and beverage served. Live music and free to public.

Some illustrators whose work is in this exhibit will be at the Arts Center from 1 - 3 pm, offering their books for sale and book signing.
