Over 20 years of experience creating functional resources and spaces for visual artists and community – based artists in all disciplines (cultural workers, arts supporters) in metro Atlanta, Southeast region and globally. Oversee audience and program development and outreach, the selection and acquisition of art and photography exhibitions, coordinator of transportation, insurance, installation and security for art exhibit material, facilitation of shipping, receiving and hanging of art to ensure effective display in diverse locations including historic homes, professional museums and gallery spaces.

Storytelling & Oral Narrative Workshop

FREE STORYTELLER WORKSHOP
conducted by award-winning and accomplished storyteller, Dr. Ray Christian.
Participants will learn about storytelling as applied science. The workshop will cover the components of personal narrative with a focus on oral presentation, the basic foundations of a story, the significance of oral history, and personal narratives.
Open to ages 16 years and up.
Lunch break included.

Dr. Ray Christian grew up in urban poverty in the Churchill community of Richmond, Virginia in the 60s and 70s. He joined the Army at 17, two weeks out of high school serving as an infantryman and a paratrooper for 20 years. Among his many decorations during his service, he received the Master Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman’s badge and the Bronze Star Medal. After his military service, Ray went back to school earning a Bachelor of Science degree, a Masters of Arts degree in Public History, and Educational Specialist and Doctorate degrees in education. Ray has taught African American History and Storytelling at Appalachian State University. He is a twelve-time Moth Story Slam Champion and Winner of the 2016 National Storytelling Festival Story Slam. His stories have been featured on the Moth Radio Hour, Snap Judgment, Back Story Radio, and the Spooked and Risk podcasts. Ray was recently selected as a Fulbright Specialist Scholar as an expert in Education and Storytelling Narrative, a prestigious and highly competitive award gifted by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Chosen specialists serve as expert consultants on research, curriculum, and faculty development s in over 140 countries around the world. Ray currently resides in Boone, NC with his family where he raises an assortment of animals and produces the podcast, What’s Ray Saying, where he uses history, storytelling and social commentary to explore the Black experience in America.
