Arts Alpharetta is hosting the 1st annual plein air painting competition, Paint the Town 2021in partnership with the City of Alpharetta and the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau from Tuesday – Saturday, May 18 – 22, 2021.
CATEGORIES
You may select your own category. Typically, the Professional category will include artists who have exhibited and received payment for their plein air artworks, who have worked or taught in the plein air style or who have belonged to an organized group or society of plein air artists. Novice category includes artists who have never participated in a plein air event or sold artworks which were created in the plein air manner.
- Artist must be at least 18 years of age.
- Space limited, pre-registration required for the competition.
- The competition is held rain or shine.
- Media: anything conducive to painting en plein air including (but not limited to) oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, gouache and charcoal on varied surfaces.
- Surfaces will be stamped on the back at registration, submitted works must bear the stamp and artist registration number.

ARTIST SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES

LOCATIONS
- All artworks to be considered in the competition must be completed on sites during the dates of the event, May 18 - May 22, 2021.
- Location must be within the City limits of Alpharetta.
- There will be limited access to some special locations offered each day at Alpharetta Arts Center (first come first served.)
- The Quick Draw/Paint competition will be limited to City Center, Brooke Street Park, Avalon and Alpha Loop on May 22, between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon. Artists will deliver one Quick Draw/Paint entry on their own easel to the Gazebo in Brooke Street Park by 1:00 PM for judging.
- Alpharetta Arts Center is located at 238 Canton Street, Alpharetta, GA 30009
Artists will be allowed and encouraged to exhibit their work as available for sale, please affix entry form to the back of your work submitted for exhibition and sale. Arts Alpharetta will facilitate sales during the exhibition and at the Wet Paint Tent Sale at the Saturday Farmer’s Market and at the exhibition at the Alpharetta Arts Center May 22 -29. All sales transactions will be conducted by Arts Alpharetta. Arts Alpharetta will collect and remit sales tax in accordance with Georgia tax laws. Artists will be given a tax form to complete and retain for their records regarding sales tax. Arts Alpharetta will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Artists may indicate that a piece is not for sale (NFS). Proceeds from the event will fund two initiatives: Takeout Art: which supplies free art kits for children in our community and the Public Art Fund: supporting the lease of public art in partnership with the City of Alpharetta. The City of Alpharetta does not permit “busking” or sales by individuals participating on location during the event.
